Outdoor Wood Hutch System

The outdoor wood hutch system is our default recommendation for keepers in cold or variable climates. Solid timber walls buffer temperature swings far better than bare wire, and a raised, predator-aware build keeps rabbits dry, ventilated and secure through every season.
Who it suits
Backyard and small-homestead keepers who want a durable, weatherproof home for one to four rabbits and are happy to trade portability for insulation and security. It shines in regions with real winters, where an uninsulated cage would leave rabbits exposed.
Why it works
- Timber walls hold warmth in winter and shade in summer.
- A raised floor deters diggers and improves drainage and airflow.
- Cross-flow vents clear ammonia without chilling the rabbit at rest.
- A deep drop tray turns daily cleaning into a two-minute job.
Setup notes
Site it out of the prevailing wind, oil the timber once a year, and add a predator-guard skirt if foxes or raccoons are active locally. Keep the nest corner draft-free and check the roof felt each autumn.
