Compact Nesting System

The compact nesting system is built around the day-27 kindling window. Clean, draft-free wooden nest boxes and a calm, predictable layout give does the best chance at a warm, tidy litter.
Who it suits
Keepers of medium breeds who are breeding a few does and want a repeatable, low-stress nesting routine rather than a full production rig.
Why it works
- Boxes sized for medium breeds let the doe shape her own nest.
- Draft-free walls and a high lip keep kits warm and contained.
- Predictable placement lets does settle before kindling.
Setup notes
Add the clean, bedded box around day 27–29 of gestation — earlier and it becomes a toilet, later and you risk kits on bare wire. One box per doe, replaced every few seasons. See our nest-box timing guide for the full timeline.
