A good nesting box is simple, and this one gets the essentials right: draft-free pine, a high lip, and a size that lets a medium-breed doe shape her own nest.

Why we recommend it

Solid pine walls block the drafts that chill newborn kits, while a 4-inch lip keeps kits in without stopping the doe hopping in and out. Ventilation slits prevent condensation, and the interior is sized so the doe can turn and arrange bedding naturally.

How to use it

• Add it around day 27–29 of gestation, clean and bedded with straw or hay.
• Let the doe pull her own fur to line the nest in the final day or two.
• Check kits calmly once a day; leave the doe to nurse (usually at night).
• Replace wooden boxes every few seasons and clean between litters.
